My journey (Or why I'm going this route)

As promised in yesterday's post, I am going to tell you (To the best of my ability) why I am going to purchase a retired ambulance to convert into a home on wheels, what led me to make this decision and why I'm even going to do this in the first place.

Let's start at the beginning, shall we?

It was my first of three senior years of high school, yes I repeated my senior year twice, but why should it matter? Anyways, during that time period I would attend a College and Career Academy that my local school district offered and rode the bus to and from that place. It was during one of those bus rides that I heard another student talking about getting a school bus and converting it into a home.

I had never heard of anything like that before, so as any curious person would do, I searched for it on YouTube and found the Skoolie community.

From that point onward, I'd wanted to buy a retired school bus and convert it into a skoolie for myself. Originally, I had wanted a full size school bus, then as time went on I had figured that either a short bus or a mid size bus would be a better option.

Then, I discovered how people were converting other vehicles into homes, such as but not limited to:

Shuttle Buses (I had considered doing a Shuttle Bus at one point)

Charter Buses (Thought about this kind of bus, but decided against it as I felt it would be "Too big" for me.)

Step Vans

Enclosed Cargo Trailers

And finally, Ambulances.

After seeing a few videos of "The Campulance Man" on YouTube (Go watch him, he's good!)  and after comparing and contrasting a retired ambulance versus a shuttle bus, I had decided that an ambulance was the "Winner" of me going back and forth with myself over what vehicle to convert into an RV/Tiny home on wheels.

Now, at first, with whatever vehicle I went with, I had intended to live full-time in it, but as time went on, I had started working weekends, and decided to be a part-timer/weekend warrior and only do trips in it in three or four days, be back at my "Home Base", and not miss a day of work.

I no longer have a schedule that would allow me to do that, plus, since my job has changed DRASTICALLY, doing me no favors for my mental health and the fact that I've been feeling stuck, lost, and like a failure...I want to rectify that by attempting to live and travel in a retired ambulance full time. (This blog, I hope to have as one way to make money on the road, the other being a YouTube channel documenting my adventures that will come when I purchase said ambulance.)

If successful in pursuing full time ambo life, well...Who knows what will happen or what I'll think about it? Not until I try, right?

Hi, there! Nice to meet you!

Hi, I'm Jacob Woodring, or "Campulance Jake" as I plan to call myself on my planned YouTube channel, I'm currently based in Northwest Georgia.

Why am I calling myself that, you may ask? I'll tell you, why:

I am going to be in the process of buying a retired ambulance to convert into a tiny home on wheels for me to live and travel in.

I'll explain my whole story in a later post, but, for now here is a "Condensed" version, if you will...

In high school, I randomly came across the Skoolie community on YouTube when I saw that people were buying old school buses to convert into RV's, and I wanted to do that originally, and after going back and forth with myself over what vehicle I would convert, I finally decided on a retired ambulance because, well, they already come with storage (Cabinets on the inside and out), they're usually well maintained in their service life, and are relatively affordable to purchase.

When I convert my ambo into a home, here are some places I wish to go to:

Florida Keys (Have been once with my family, and would like to go again)

To a Purdue Boilermakers football game in West Lafayette, Indiana. (I'm a Purdue fan, despite living in the state of Georgia)

To Quartzsite, Arizona every winter. (Possibly)

and more!

I plan to post a new blog here at least three or four times a week, maybe more eventually, but for now, this will have to do.

Catch ya on the Flip Side!

-Jacob
